Do you need to know how to swim to practice canoeing?

Yes. Despite the compulsory wearing of a life jacket, regulations require that anyone who practices canoeing knows how to swim.

From what age can you practice canoeing?

I can supervise your children on the water from 7 years old, provided they know how to swim.

What equipment should I use for a canoe-kayak trip?

Outfit and equipment to bring in all seasons:
- glasses or sunglasses with cord attachment
- water shoes or old sneakers
- depending on the weather: swimsuit, cap/hat, sunscreen, rain jacket...
- water bottle
- snack: cereal bars, fresh or dried fruit...

You can bring a waterproof bag to take the small equipment you want to keep with you (phone, identity papers, money, camera, etc.)

Note: the life jacket and helmet if necessary are loaned by the club for the duration of the session

What are the differences between a kayak and a canoe?

In a kayak, you sit at the bottom of the boat and propel yourself with a double paddle (one stroke to the right, one stroke to the left!). In a canoe, you are traditionally kneeling in the boat, but the presence of a bench also allows you to sit. We use a single paddle and only paddle on one side. There are individual kayaks and canoes, as well as double kayaks and canoes (two people paddle). There are also boats where you can hold on to much more!

What are the differences between renting canoes and going on an outing accompanied by an instructor?

Renting canoes and kayaks means being independent. The advantage of being accompanied by a professional is to allow you to learn the good basics of canoeing, to progress more easily and consider more varied rivers, while remaining in control of your boat. Furthermore, Pascal will teach you how to read the river and avoid its traps, bringing security and serenity to your canoë trip.

Can we practice with Pascal all year round? Even in winter ?

Oui !

What are the strong points of the equipment used by Pascal?

With "Off Trails", you will sail aboard maneuverable boats, on which you will have good gliding sensations, and which will allow you to really learn canoeing and kayaking techniques. For better learning, I have Canadian-style canoes. These large canoes make it easy to take on passengers and equipment.

Can we sail on a river other than the Yonne with Pascal?

Can we take our animals on the rivers?

Yes, it is possible as part of a family outing or for a group reservation. On the other hand, for events open to all audiences, I cannot guarantee this, because people may be disturbed by the presence of certain animals. Moreover, I don't take elephants, nor goldfish which could return to their natural environment... ;-)

Where is the meeting place for the activities?

The meeting place is at the Mailly-la-Ville canoe-kayak club (89270), below the town hall, ruelle de la Maison d'Ecole, on Chemin du Halage.

Will we have to use our cars to travel between the departure and arrival points?

No for outings departing from the club and returning. Yes for traveling outings, where a shuttle will be necessary. Some individual cars can be used in carpooling. In these cases, we determine the organization together.
